Mushroom Gnocchi with Homemade Pesto Sauce & Grilled Asparagus.

Tuesday 1st March 2011

About 10 years ago MW & I ended up at an amazing restaurant on an island just off of Sardinia, Italy. We still talk of the meal we had there 10 years after we ate it.

There was no menu to look through. The chef came to the table and told us what we were going to eat. We both sat there just saying, “Oh, that sounds nice.” to everything he said. It was only when he walked away that we started to panic about how much it was going to cost.

The first course was gnocchi with pesto sauce. I hadn’t eaten gnocchi before and it’s moreishness & delicious smell of basil helped it down without touching the sides.

Next up was hand-made mezzi Rigatoni pasta with a special tuna & tomato sauce. (The island is famous for it’s tuna.) It was buttery and sweet from the tomatoes-delicious.

I didn’t take much notice of the dessert (not a big fan of sweet things) but MW tells me it was fantastic.

It did cost us an arm & a leg but it was definitely worth it.

MS lent back on his chair after three-quarters of his plate and pronounced;

“I’m stuffed!…it is really filling you know.”

“That’s because it’s like…potato.” MW said.

“Yeah, that’s cos’ it is.” He laughed.
