Moules Roquefort et Frites.

Friday 22nd April 2011

Zephyrus loves mussels. Once again, it comes down to the fact that he can eat, not only the mussels but the chips and the salad, with his fingers.

Once he has finished, he sits like a roman emperor with his fingers pointing skyward, surveying his pile of empty shells, making noises of satisfaction.

King for a day. 🙂

Once while on holiday in Holland we popped across the border into Belgium for the day to taste their famous moules et frites.

When the pot of steaming mussels arrived at our table we asked the waiter what part of Belgium they were from.

“These aren’t from here…” He said. “…we get them from New Zealand.”

Apparently, mussels are only in season on the months that have the letter ‘R’ in them and we were there in August.

So much for their famous Belgian mussels.

Lovely moules et frites lunch that I always look forward to in France. It’s never a disappointment.
