Steak & Kidney Pie, Mash Potato, Carrots, Green Beans & Gravy.

Friday 6th May 2011

It’s beginning to get warm here. Weather wise, I mean. This signifies the start of two things for me; 1) I need to cross the road to the shady side of the street (Physically not metaphorically.) and 2) my days are numbered for hearty winter meals.

I fished this out of the freezer before it gets too hot to serve up. I made a huge pie a couple of weeks ago and keep half of it in the freezer for a rainy day.

Ok, it’s not raining but I’m running out of time.

I’m looking forward to the change in diet that is imminent. Although one of the meals I lament the most during the summer months is mash potato & gravy. It’s one of the most comforting food combinations.

I’ve inherited my love of mash from my Dad. Dad loves mash. He likes it like wallpaper paste. Completely pureed with lots of butter.

Unsurprisingly, my son, Zeph, likes it too. Probably for the same reasons as my Dad & I. It takes very little effort to eat & it fills you up.

The only problem being that he can’t eat it with his fingers. 😉

About whatdidyouhavefordinnerlastnight

I started this blog to record the meals I make for my son. One of the many great memories I have of my childhood is the food I ate. The smell of boiling cauliflower on a Sunday morning that steamed up the windows, Lamb sandwiches for tea in front of the tele, cubes of raw jelly at nan’s house and of course mum’s homemade pizza (made with a short crust base) I hope my food creates good memories for my son but if nothing else this blog might jog his memory when he’s older! Enjoy.

How warm does it get in your summer months? And who’s to say you can’t eat mash during that time? 😉 Perhaps a nice sweet potato mash…?
