Uitsmijter.

We are in Holland.

“What’s Holland famous for then Zeph?” Asks my wife.

“Clogs.” He replies after thinking for a while.

“Tulips.” She continues, encouraging him to keep thinking.

“Uitsmijter.” I chip in.

“What’s uitsmijter?” Zephy asks.

“You know, the ham & fried egg on bread thing.” My wife informs him.

“Oh yeah.” He says going back to looking out the window.

“Do you like uitsmijter Zeph?” I ask him.

“Yesz, I like uitsmijter!” He proclaims in his best generic northern European accent. 🙂

I started this blog to record the meals I make for my son. One of the many great memories I have of my childhood is the food I ate. The smell of boiling cauliflower on a Sunday morning that steamed up the windows, Lamb sandwiches for tea in front of the tele, cubes of raw jelly at nan’s house and of course mum’s homemade pizza (made with a short crust base) I hope my food creates good memories for my son but if nothing else this blog might jog his memory when he’s older! Enjoy.

    Did you cut the crusts off the bread? If so, that would really surprise me!

    You know what else Holland is famous for? Windmills. And cheese. 🙂
